What Executives Value in Their CEOs

Harvard Business Review recently had an article (link below) by Leslie Gaines-Ross of Weber Shandwick titled, “What Executives Value In Their CEOs.” Last week we discussed the “value” of a CEO from a mathematical perspective in our blog. The article below adds to the fact that a good CEO is incredibly valuable. Specifically, the research showed:

1.    That nearly one half (50%) of a company’s corporate reputation is linked to the reputation of the CEO; 
2.    That nearly one half (50%) of the company’s market value is also linked to the reputation of the CEO; 
3.    Seventy-seven percent (77%) of those surveyed believe a positive reputation of a CEO helps in attracting new talent;
4.    Seventy percent (70%) believe it helps retain talent; and
5.    Half (50%) of the 1750 executives surveyed across the world believe that a CEO's reputation will become even more important in years to come.

The Top 3 CEO attributes valued the most:

–    HUMILITY
–    VISIBILITY
–    PERSUASIVENESS

Bottom-line, in today’s super communicative world, the reputation of a company’s CEO is absolutely critical—and it can go both ways.

Here’s to all the CEOS who display the attributes above; that do make a difference and who are what Jim Collin’s refers to as “Level 5 Leaders!”
